David Stejskal, a doctoral student at the Faculty of Mining and Geology, VSB-TUO, Ostrava, completed STSM (short-term scientific mission) at the University of Lorraine – École des Mines de Nancy and at the INERIS research institute in Nancy, France in June 2026. His supervisor was the head of our WP4, Dr. Marwan Al Heib.

During his week-long stay, he focused on developing the Micro-Mining Readiness Index (MMRI) methodology, which is designed to assess the readiness of micro-mining projects; he discussed the potential for applying the methodology in a European context; and he worked on preparing a joint scientific publication with an international partner.

The internship also contributed to establishing and strengthening international cooperation between the Faculty of Mining and Geology at VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava and French research institutions in the field of the sustainable use of mineral resources and modern approaches to mining.
