Meeting in Most, Czech Republic, January 2026

The first meeting for this year for COST Action CA22138 – Recovery of Mining District Network Core Group & Working Group meeting, was held 27–28 January 2026 in Most, Czech Republic.

The meeting was focused on the preparation of upcoming training schools. Soon there will be more information about the training schools so follow us.

During the meeting the hosts organised technical field excursion, offering first-hand insight into reclamation practices, mine-closure processes, biotechnological mine-water treatment, and the transformation of former open-pit mines into functional landscapes.

The extraction of minerals and metals from the earth crust is as old as human mankind. The management of mine closure and post-closure is getting more and more attention because in Europe as well as worldwide many regions are affected by environmental residues such as tailings, waste dumps, subsidences, contaminated water which is the result of unsatisfactory environmental performance of the mining industry in the past.
