The REMINDET Project successfully hosted its Working Group and Core Group meetings from September 15 to 17, 2026, at the University of Zagreb in Croatia. The hybrid event brought together experts, researchers, and stakeholders to discuss post-mining rehabilitation, heritage preservation, and the future strategic direction of the network.
Key Highlights from the Program
- Academic and Legislative Insights: The first day featured expert presentations from the Faculty of Mining, Geology and Petroleum Engineering. Topics included Croatia’s geological and mining heritage, the rehabilitation of old coal mines, and the impact of recent legislative changes on inactive mineral extraction fields.
- Progress and Grant Successes: Leaders from all five Working Groups shared their latest updates. The network also promoted academic mobility, showcasing successful research outcomes from Short-Term Scientific Missions (STSM) and Inclusiveness Target Countries (ITC) conference grants.
- Future Planning: Participants reviewed the achievements of Project Year 3 and mapped out activities for Year 4, including preparations for the upcoming Training School and the planning framework for the European Conference on Post-Mining.
- Technical Excursions: On the second day, attendees participated in a technical tour starting at the Technical Museum Nikola Tesla’s Mining Department in Zagreb. This was followed by a guided underground exploration of the historic St. Barbara Mine in Rude, Samobor.
- Strategic Roadmap: The event concluded on September 17 with an exclusive Core Group meeting dedicated to finalizing the network’s long-term administrative and research milestones.
