WG meeting in Tirana, Albania

We are thrilled to announce the successful conclusion of the 4th REMINDNET meeting, focused on Best Practice Sharing and the Preparation for Year 2, which took place on September 18-19, 2024, at the “Silvano Pedrollo” Aula Magna, Polytechnic University of Tirana.
This important event brought together experts from 25 European countries, including mining engineers, geologists, economists, and legal representatives, to discuss key topics such as legislation, governance, and rehabilitation techniques for managing the environmental impacts of closed mining sites and main goals of each WG for the first year of project.
Special thanks to the participants who contributed their invaluable insights and expertise to ensure a sustainable and responsible future for the mining industry across Europe.
We look forward to continuing this impactful journey in Year 2 of the REMINDNET project!

The extraction of minerals and metals from the earth crust is as old as human mankind. The management of mine closure and post-closure is getting more and more attention because in Europe as well as worldwide many regions are affected by environmental residues such as tailings, waste dumps, subsidences, contaminated water which is the result of unsatisfactory environmental performance of the mining industry in the past.
